I was able to go to a few days of Henry Yan's workshop in Scottsdale last week. Henry has a wonderfully expressive style which is fully explained in his book (see his website at http://www.henryyanart.com/ ). I'm posting a couple of my drawings; the first is a twenty minute pose and the second is a three hour pose.

just wondering if you thought he was a good teacher. I like his work but that doesn't always mean they can teach. Thanks for your help
Susan, I thought he was a terrific teacher and a very nice person as well.
I bought his book on figure drawing and was so impressed with his painterly charcoal work, But he never mentioned in the book that I have read as yet what kind of paper he works on besides the toned paper. Could you share that bit of info. It looks like you benefited form the workshop! Yes?
Don Rogers
Hi Don, I'll go check my notes as to what paper he used. We all swapped paper during the workshop and tried new paper, too. I'll post the answer soon.
I emailed Henry and he said that he brought Utrecht smooth drawing paper and Utrecht smooth newsprint to the workshop. He is not particular about brands at all, he just tries to find one that works well. I'm sure you will really enjoy his class.
